from Barbara, El, Lorrie, Jean, and Sharon K., Our students come to us motivated and willing to learn. It is up to us as teachers to design the work in way that it is meaningful and has value to our students.
I believe that by using the design qualities it will allow the teachers to design lessons that are engaging and meaningful to the students.-Katie Colson
From Shannon S. and Michele G. River Road The students will be more active in their learning as they work with engaging projects. The students will have a choice in projects that will help meet the needs of the individual.
By having a belief sysytem it allows buy in from the teachers and students. It helps to guide the direction of the classroom and the school as a whole.
Content and information that is presented to students in ways that grab and keep their attention, makes them eager to learn! I was reminded that learning must be relevant to "the real world" or students will not see its value. K. Roberts
Once the framework is applied in the classroom, students retention of knowledge should increase as well as be able to apply the information in the future because they learned out of desire instead of compliance.
It will give children a voice in how they like learning and when they are most engaged. Children will have a chance to say what works best for them and what helps them retain information the best.
If teachers will take the time to plan with the 10 Design Qualities in mind, more students will be engaged, and as a result, teachers will probably have fewer discipline problems! The end products will be much more meaningful and students will more likely retain the information taught!
I believe that the students will be able to transfer learning from one grade level to the next if the lessons are engaging. It will take time and total teacher buy in to make it happen. "I Gotta Feelin that this work's gonna be some hard work. That this work's gonna be some good hard work!"
I believe when work is designed with the students in mind, and they are given choice in their work, they will be more excited about what they are doing in class and there will be meaning to their assignments.
I realized that there is a difference between designing lessons and planning lessons. As teachers we should be designing lessons through best practices that guide students to become life-long learners.
WOW promotes rigor, relevance, and relationships. Students will more likely recall information learned through engaging activities that relate to their own lives.
I believe that students will be able to take their knowledge from one grade level to the next and will be excited to learn. It all revolves around the teachers buying in to the idea and bringing into their classrooms.
The focus of the WOW Framework is on student engagement. By incorporating the ten Design Qualities into daily lessons and activities, students will become increasingly interested, motivated, and engaged. The framework ensures that teachers are designing work that will meet the needs of the students in the classroom. The work becomes relevant and authentic to the students. This framework stimulates a desire to learn in students instead of an attitude of compliance.
Because lessons will be designed around each student's interests and the WOW Standards will be included in each unit, students will learn and not just memorize
I believe that the framework will help us look at how we design work for our students. Once we do this, the students will become more engaged and volunteer to do their work. Understanding the meaning and relevance of what they are being tasked to do.
As we give the students engagement meters, we can assess whether the students are really as engaged in the lesson as we would like to believe. As we look at student work together, we can assess the rigor of the work. This is hard to do because it opens each of us up to corrective criticism. We need to adopt the concept that together we can impact more and create more than we can as individuals.
Designing lessons basically says it all! When we learn to design---knowing our students strengths, weaknesses; likes and dislikess---we will engage them in learning and they will learn.
Lessons designed using the design qualities povide students with a choice. When given a choice I believe they are more motivated and engaged in their assignments.
I can see a direct correlation between the WOW framework and student learning. Students and adults are more engaged when the topic they are learning about is something authentic and interesting to them. Through the use of the WOW framework and the ten design qualities, I think student engagement and achievement will improve.

For a teacher there is nothing more satisfying as seeing their students excited and actively working on their subject. It is better than cake!

I think that students will be more engaged and more eager to participate in the lessons that teachers create for their students.

The information gained from the framework will help teachers continuously reflect on their designing/planning, students, and themselves as teachers.

I believe that if we can think of students as our customers, we can design better lessons that fit their needs.

I believe that the implementation of the W.O.W. framework will insure that more students are engaged and as a result significantly improve learning.
